The Chevrolet Groove is a rebadged Baojun 510.
New light vehicle sales in Chile surge back up 205.9% year-on-year in April to 27.241 units on locked down year-ago volumes. Note April 2021 remains down -16.7% on April 2019 pre-pandemic volumes. The year-to-date tally is now up 28.4% to 109.228 units. Chevrolet (+157.5%) remains the best-selling carmaker in the country but trails the market to 10.6% share vs. 11.3% year-to-date. Peugeot (+288.1%) is up 7 spots on March to land in a stunning 2nd place overall while Nissan (+312.1%) repeats in third place. Chery (+905.5%) is up five ranks to #5 on last month with MG (+395.9%) is down two to #6. Volkswagen (+444.4%) and Ford (+263%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Overall, Chinese carmakers are up 329.3% year-on-year to 25% share.
Model-wise, the MG ZS and Chery Tiggo 2 top the April charts as they do year-to-date. The Nissan Kicks is up 10 spots on March to #3, making the podium 100% SUV with the Toyota Hilux and Peugeot Partner rounding out the Top 5. Chilean customers not only favour Chinese carmakers, they also do made-in-China vehicles: the Chevrolet Groove aka Baojun 510 is up one spot to #6 and the Ford Territory shoots up to #7. The Maxus T60 and Chery Tiggo 3 also slide into the April Top 10. Notice also the Peugeot 3008 at #10, the Nissan Qashqai at #13 and the MG3 at #17.
